The "Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Course Zon Utara 2026" was successfully held from 17–19 July 2026 at Kayangan Hall, Level 8, KPJ Perlis. The three-day programme was jointly organised by the Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP), Kelab Sokongan Susuan Ibu Perlis (KSSIP), and the Perlis State Health Department (JKN Perlis). The course brought together healthcare professionals, maternity care providers, women working with pregnant mothers, freelancers, and individuals with a passion for supporting breastfeeding families. The programme was designed to strengthen participants' knowledge and counselling skills in breastfeeding support through evidence-based learning, practical guidance, and interactive discussions. Participants gained a deeper understanding of breastfeeding management, effective communication techniques, and strategies to empower mothers to overcome common breastfeeding challenges. The course also encouraged networking and collaboration among professionals and community supporters, reinforcing a shared commitment to improving breastfeeding outcomes and maternal and child health in Malaysia. We sincerely thanks all participants, speakers, sponsors, partners, and the organising committee for their dedication, collaboration, and invaluable contributions in making this programme a great success. The Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP) successfully organized the Monthly Program: Pregnancy, Breastfeeding & Parenting Seminar on 12 July 2026 at the BCNP Consultancy Training Centre, Johor Bahru. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Hairin Anisa binti Tajuddin, a Paediatrician and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), with a team of certified and experienced facilitators who shared practical knowledge and evidence-based guidance with parents and caregivers. The event covered a wide range of topics, including prenatal care, breastfeeding techniques, infant and child nutrition, child growth and development, positive parenting, and common childhood health concerns. Participants gained valuable insights and practical skills to support their children's healthy development from pregnancy through early childhood. The seminar brought together expectant parents, parents of infants and young children, caregivers, and early childhood educators in an engaging learning environment. Attendees also enjoyed complimentary meals, received participant goodie bags, and had the opportunity to win exciting lucky draw prizes. The event concluded successfully, equipping participants with greater confidence and knowledge to make informed parenting and child health decisions. Organised by the Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP), the 20-hour training programme brought together healthcare professionals, confinement ladies, breastfeeding advocates, and individuals passionate about supporting mothers and infants. Throughout the programme, participants gained evidence-based knowledge and practical skills in breastfeeding support, peer counseling, effective communication, and the management of common breastfeeding challenges through interactive lectures, discussions, and practical sessions. The course provided an excellent platform for learning, networking, and collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds who shared a common goal of strengthening breastfeeding support within their communities. On 1 May 2026, the Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP) successfully organized the Workshop on Assessment & Management of Tongue Tie & Oro-motor Problems, bringing together healthcare professionals and lactation counsellors for an intensive one-day training aimed at strengthening their knowledge and clinical skills in managing infants with breastfeeding difficulties. The workshop was designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and function of the infant oral cavity, tongue tie (ankyloglossia), and oromotor disorders that may interfere with effective breastfeeding. Through evidence-based lectures and practical sessions delivered by experienced multidisciplinary speakers, participants gained valuable insights into the assessment, diagnosis, management, and counselling of affected infants and their families. The workshop covered essential topics including: Anatomy of the infant tongue and oral cavity. Classification and severity grading of tongue tie. The impact of tongue tie and oro-motor dysfunction on breastfeeding, infant growth, and development. Clinical examination techniques and standardized precise assessment methods. Indications and contraindications for frenotomy. Post-frenotomy care, breastfeeding support, and parental counselling. Hands-on practical assessment. By the end of the workshop, participants were expected to: Perform a systematic assessment of infants presenting with breastfeeding difficulties related to tongue tie or oro-motor dysfunction. Differentiate between the various classifications and severity of tongue tie using appropriate assessment tools. Identify when tongue tie is likely to contribute to ineffective breastfeeding and poor milk transfer. Recognize infants who require referral for further evaluation or frenotomy. Provide evidence-based counselling to parents regarding the diagnosis, severity, expected outcomes, and available management options. Develop individualized breastfeeding management plans before and after intervention to optimize breastfeeding success. The workshop emphasized that not all breastfeeding difficulties are caused by tongue tie alone. A thorough assessment of infant oral function, feeding behaviour, and maternal factors is essential to avoid overdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures. Participants were encouraged to adopt a holistic, evidence-based approach to ensure that infants and mothers receive appropriate assessment, timely intervention, and continued breastfeeding support. Through this educational initiative, BCNP continues its commitment to enhancing the competency of healthcare professionals and lactation counsellors, ultimately improving breastfeeding outcomes and supporting the healthy growth and development of infants and young children
Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP) successfully organized the Induced Lactation & Relactation Workshop on 15 February 2026 at the BCNP Training Centre, Bandar Dato’ Onn. This one-day workshop was designed to empower healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the management of induced lactation and relactation. The program emphasized evidence-based practices to ensure safe, effective, and ethical breastfeeding support within healthcare settings. Participants gained a clear understanding of the concepts and principles of induced lactation and relactation, enhanced their counselling and communication skills, and strengthened their ability to assess maternal readiness and individual needs. The workshop also reinforced the vital role of healthcare professionals in supporting breastfeeding success and promoting the wellbeing of both mother and baby. In addition, the program provided essential insights into Islamic guidelines(fiqh) related to milk sharing and adoptive breastfeeding, ensuring that practices align with Shariah principles while safeguarding lineage and mahram relationships.
Breastfeeding Counselor Networking Program (BCNP), in collaboration with the Johor State Community Nutrition & Health Association (PPKKJ), successfully organized the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Course 2025 from 12 to 14 December 2025 at the BCNP Training Centre, Bandar Dato Onn. The three-day course was conducted with the objective of equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to serve as Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, enabling them to provide appropriate guidance and support to breastfeeding mothers. The program also aimed to enhance maternal and infant health outcomes by strengthening breastfeeding support systems within communities and healthcare facilities.All sessions were facilitated by qualified and experienced speakers, each possessing recognized credentials and extensive expertise in breastfeeding counseling and support. Participants were exposed to evidence-based knowledge, practical counseling approaches, and interactive discussions aimed at enhancing their confidence and competency as peer counselors.
The 6th BCNP Annual Conference was successfully organized on 27–28 September 2025 at Tamu Hotel & Suites, Kuala Lumpur, bringing together breastfeeding professionals and advocates from across Malaysia in a collaborative and inspiring environment. The conference aimed to raise awareness on the importance of strong and effective support systems in ensuring successful breastfeeding journeys for mothers and families. It also focused on enhancing the knowledge, competencies, and professional development of BCNP-registered counselors, while encouraging closer collaboration among healthcare professionals, breastfeeding advocates, and community support providers. Another key objective of the conference was to empower peer supporters, breastfeeding counselors, lactation consultants, and healthcare staff with updated, evidence-based knowledge and practical counseling skills, enabling them to provide more confident, consistent, and high-quality support to breastfeeding families. The two-day event featured 12 expert speakers from various disciplines who shared current insights, best practices, and real-life experiences through engaging presentations and discussions. Participants representing diverse breastfeeding support roles from all over Malaysia benefited from valuable networking opportunities and knowledge exchange. A significant highlight of the conference was the Soft Launch of the KidsNurture Apps, a digital initiative developed to support parents, caregivers, and breastfeeding professionals. The app is designed to provide accessible, reliable, and user-friendly information on breastfeeding, child nutrition, and early childhood care, complementing existing support services. The soft launch reflected BCNP’s commitment to integrating digital health solutions to strengthen community-based support systems and improve maternal and child health outcomes nationwide.
Held on 31st May 2025 at The Saddle Resort, Kuantan, the “Bicara Santai” Seminar brought together breastfeeding supporters and healthcare professionals to explore deeper issues behind exclusive breastfeeding failures. Despite lengthy counselling, many mothers still struggle — highlighting overlooked factors such as undiagnosed postpartum depression, brain fog, poor maternal understanding, and clinical challenges like tongue tie cases not receiving frenotomy. This seminar provided valuable insights on recognising psychological conditions, clinical decision-making, and how to better support mothers beyond textbook counselling. With a beach-themed setting, the event also featured performances and best-dressed awards, creating an informative yet relaxed environment for all participants.
